How you tell your story matters

Have you ever felt like you’re two different people?

One part: Curated, put-together, paraded around for the outside world.

The other part: A step-sister, a pariah, hidden and heavily policed. Only allowed out in private?

When the version of ourselves that we present to the outside world is out of sync with who we are at the core, a split starts to form. With each part of ourselves we hide, this split grows and deepens – until it's a gaping hole, draining our energy, and how we show up in the world.

And here’s the part to remember –  it starts with us. With the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves –

“This is OK, show this.”

Or

“This part is bad, wrong. Hide it.”

By hiding away the parts of ourselves that we think are “wrong”, we convince ourselves further that there must indeed be something wrong with us. It is a cycle that keeps feeding on its own tail, cutting itself down from growing.

But what happens when we mindfully bring together the different parts of ourselves to form a cohesive narrative that serves us, builds us up and helps us take space in the world as aligned, confident and closest to our truest selves as possible?

What if the secret to thriving is not a foolproof polished exterior, but lies in integrating different parts of yourself into a unified, aligned version that you feel at one with?

As Seen In

Meet Som

Som Puri is a writer, speaker and closetted comic with a rich inner life

Growing up, she spent a lot of time hiding who she was, who she REALLY was. Her life was split in two – the carefully curated outside world, and her inner private secret world full of quirks and insecurities and stories and contradictions.

She tried her best to keep the two apart, water-tight, fool-proof. But the more she separated her two worlds, the more out of step she felt. An imposter, always looking over her shoulder to see if anything was showing, covering up her tracks.

Learning how to take control of her personal narrative is what slowly and gently unified her two worlds. Cautiously at first then backed by intention and force, she integrated the different stories and parts of her that made her feel her best into her narrative.

Som uses play, personal experience and the magic of stories to speak about taking charge of your personal narrative, mindfully closing the gap between our outer and inner worlds and living more aligned lives as a result.
